Because of the proximity to the Surrey Docks Bermondsey andRotherhithe had suffered badly during the 1940-41 NightBlitz.Much of the dock area had been seriously damaged andgreat fires had burned out of control. Now the area was to sufferagain as it was hit by 30 V1's and 7 V2's These missiles killedabout 84 people.

Twenty-five years ago, driven by a desire to understand how these weapons shaped modern London, I embarked on a deep-dive research project. After hundreds of hours of investigation, I published my findings here. The V1 Flying Bomb and V2 Rocket represent a pivotal chapter in London’s history, and I am pleased to share this research with fellow history enthusiasts.
