Return to area index
The SW2 area of London covers parts of Brixton,Streatham Hill and Tulse Hill
It was struck by 21 V1's which killed  about 83 people. There were no V2' attacks.
The Streatham Hill area was to suffer 5 V1's in very close proximity. These were in
Wavertree Road, Streatham Hill opposite the end of Wyatt Park Road, Streatham Hill by Barhill Road, Barcombe Avenue and Downton Avenue The effect of the blast in this limited area must have been substantial with few buildings escaping any damage.
The worst incident in SW2 was at a rest centre in
Acre Lane which was hit by a Flying bomb on 28th June At 12.49. The centre was used to assist people who had previously been bombed out of their houses and tragically 25 were to die
This is the Streatham Hill theatre from Barhill Road after a V1 hit it on 3rd July at 06.36. The building was repaired post war and is now used as a Bingo Hall. The repaired flank wall can clearly be detected on close inspection
