Day by Day V1 & V2 diary SW11 LOG
London SW11 was hit by 24  V1 Flying Bombs and 2 V2 Rockets.which killed 110 people a death rate per missile of 4.23. This death toll, whilst tragic, is somewhat lower than that normaly ecountered in inner London Areas. One of the reasons for this would lie in the fact that 7 of the missiles recorded in the log fell either in the river of Battersea Park causing some damage but no fatalities. If these incidents are excluded then the death rate per missile becomes 6.47 much more typical of this type of suburb.
The worst incident in SW11 was on 17th August 1944 at 15.30 when a V1 struck Lavender Hill badly damaging a passing bus and killing 28 people.
SW11 suffered 2 V2 Rockets explosions both of which caused fatalities. On the 21st November 5 died at
Battersea Park Road, then on 27th January 1945 17 died in Usk Road, the last V weapon to hit the district.
