Many of the dead and injured were London Transport workers. 60 houses were damaged, 50 suffered slight damage. Tragically Sydney Steer aged 17 was to die, followed by his Father Herbert who was killed at Clockhouse 3rd August. The bus garage was re-built post war but has now been replaced with flats. |

Many died instantly. The blast extended many hundreds of yards in each direction. 44 people were to die in the tragedy, the worst in Beckenham and one of the worst in South London.
