Of all Hitlers V weapons the V3 is the least documented. This is mainly due to the fact that it was never used. However it would seem that there was also an official reluctance to discuss the matter after the war. This was probably due to the fact that British Intelligence knew nothing of the V3 and were taken totally by surprise at its existence. They were then less than happy to admit that they had failed to find the weapon. It is only as official documents have been released into the public domain that the full truth has been known. The V3 was basically a super gun . There would have been 25 of them and they would,together have been able to fire 10 Rocket assisted shells a minute at London.
Had this weapon been used London would probably have had to be totally evacuated. Fortunately the allies bombed the V3 site at Mimoyeques in Northern France,knowing that it was some type of V weapon installation. 617 Squadron, The Dam busters, used Tallboy bombs to peirce the concrete dome that covered the tunnels and rended it useless
